Jesus says in today’s Gospel, “I am meek and humble of heart” I am meek… I don’t know about you, but I don’t use the work meek very often. It is not a word that we commonly use. But today, we hear it in the Gospel and in the first reading. In the first reading from the prophet Zechariah the Lord says, “See your king shall come to you; a just savior is he, meek, and riding on an ass.”
Thanks to all of you who participated in our cluster mission, The Gift That Is Our Family. We were blessed with inspired speakers, great attendance, excellent food, and above all, a strong witness to the community in our parishes and beyond. Your families … the domestic churches that live in your homes … are a treasure and a remarkable resource of love, belonging, and service.
It is my hope that during the coming months we will find ways, both familiar and new, to build upon the foundation of these days and enrich even further the gift of family life. Please know that every morning, you are in my daily prayer both in gratitude and in intercession for your needs. I want to express a special thanks to the committee that formed from each of the parishes and collaborated so generously to make all the details fall into place: Sharon Asselin, Jamie Austad, Chris Codden, Jeff Feddema, Diane Hajicek, Mike Kowski, Henry Mulbah, Mary Ann Rindelaub, Mark Rueter, Roxann Storms, and Nancy Zaczkowski, as well as the added work our staff has done. Many hours of behind-the-scenes work have gone into this celebration of our families, and I am confident that the same Spirit Who has been at work will continue to guide us.
